Synthetic athletics track closure

Sydney Academy of Sport's synthetic athletic track is closed due to damage to the track surface which made it unsafe for use.

The Office of Sport investigated the cause of the damage and is investigating options to repair and reopen the track, including the costs, risks, benefits and feasibility of each option.

The Office of Sport’s priority is providing the athletics community with a safe and accessible track that is not impacted by floodwater and inundation.

The temporary six-lane 400 metre grass athletics track on Oval 1 at Sydney Academy of Sport will be closed for maintenance from 17 December 2024 until 10 January 2025. The track will re-open to the athletics community on Saturday, 11 January 2025.

The designated throwing and jump areas adjacent to the closed athletics track remain open for use.

What our guests say

"The Academy of Sport was the ideal location for our annual team meeting and could not recommend them highly enough. The food was excellent and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of gourmet food available at this facility. By far the best value for money venue we have ever had."

Device Technologies, Belrose

“I’ve been bringing schools to the Academy for over 22 years. I’m always impressed by the professionalism of the teaching staff, the quality of the program, the comfortable accommodation and the amount and quality of the food.”

Chris Dougherty, Principal, Morgan St Primary School

“The Academy has given the Manly Sea Eagles the best training facilities for any club side in a code of football in Australia. I’m certain the facilities will greatly assist our pursuit to the top of the National Rugby League tree.

Des Hasler, Head Coach, Manly Sea Eagles
