Bushwalking permits
Broken Bay Sport and Recreation Centre is located on 650 hectares of private property at the mouth of the Hawkesbury River and is surrounded by bush that borders Brisbane Water National Park. There are a number of bushwalking tracks that criss-cross the property, including popular routes between Little Wobby and Patonga.
As a child-safe facility, access to the Centre is reserved for groups with a prior booking, during either a day or overnight program. However, we welcome bushwalkers to pass through the Centre after registering their intention with us. We will issue a permit allowing temporary access for a specific date and number of people, free of charge. This permit does not allow access to any facilities or use of the grounds, including camping at any of our campsites.
Please contact us on 13 13 02 to register your bushwalking group and gain your permit. If you would like to use our facilities or make use of our grounds, such as for a BBQ, picnic or camping, please discuss your needs when contacting us.
We ask that you abide by the following principles when on our property or in our Centre:
- Carry your permit with you to show Centre staff on request and abide by any instructions given.
- Remain on the established bushwalking tracks and do not create new tracks.
- Do not mark tracks with items such as electrical tape or tags and do not remove any track markers or signs placed by us.
- Leave no trace and take all rubbish with you.
- Be respectful of the native flora and fauna.
- Domestic animals such as dogs are not allowed.
- Do not approach any groups that are participating in our booked programs.
- All activity areas, buildings and facilities are out of bounds.
- When in the Centre, please report to the office to confirm your presence and sign the visitor register.
- Our Centre and surrounding property is a smoke-free environment.
Please be aware:
- Our private wharfs at Broken Bay and Little Wobby are not included in the public ferry route. Bushwalkers are responsible for arranging their transport. Consider possible delays and allow plenty of time.
- Access to and from Patonga is not recommended via the rock platform around Pacific Head. Patonga Creek is often too deep to walk across.
- Mobile reception may be poor or non-existent in some areas.
- All members of your group who enter Departmental land do so at their own risk.
- In the case of an emergency, call “000” or “112” or use the Emergency+ app. Centre staff may also render assistance via the Centre’s office.
“This is our school’s favourite camp. Broken Bay provides amazing opportunities for students. The participation in each activity was fantastic and the staff were great at encouraging all to have a go. We really appreciate how the staff accommodate our special needs students. The food was enjoyed by all. We appreciate the extra work that went into accommodating the special diets and fussy eaters. Staff meals were great.”
