Safety and injury prevention is a top priority for all sporting organisations. Along with safety guidelines for your sport and good coaching practices, club volunteers can benefit from training in this area.

What club committees can do

There are 8 key steps club committees should follow to create safe and fair clubs.

Specifically, when it comes to safety and injury prevention consider:

  • Concussion in sport protocols
  • the existing sport safety and injury related policies your sport likely has. These are generally set by your national or state peak body.
  • Sports Medicine Australia  has a range of resources to help increase your knowledge of sports safety, including:
    • Training courses
    • Injury fact sheets – including asthma management, dental injuries and ankle injuries
    • Concussion – advice and sample policy
    • Sport fact-sheets –  sport-specific safety advice
    • Policies and guidelines – on hot weather, older adults, infectious disease, and more.
    • Sports injury reporting – templates to assist with data collection, reporting and prevention.
