Clean, fair sport is vital for safety, wellbeing and upholding the value of sport.
Doping refers to the use of prohibited drugs and methods by an athlete to improve sporting performance.
Sports participants, coaches, administrators, officials, medical practitioners and other support providers engaging in organised sport in Australia are required to comply with anti-doping codes, policies and practices as a condition of their involvement.
What club committees can do
There are 8 key steps club committees should follow to create safe and fair clubs. These are essential foundations for anti-doping and other issues.
Specifically, when it comes to anti-doping consider:
- Be familiar the anti-doping policies and codes in place for your sport and promote them often to members. These are generally set by your national or state peak body
- Be familiar with Sport Integrity Australia – and use the advice resources, training and help it can provide to support fair, clean sport
- Understand that the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) publishes an updated Prohibited List which sets out the substances and methods that are banned in sport
- Educate and communicate to athletes and members on an ongoing basis – promote a culture that nurtures clean sport, and ensure everyone understands their responsibility.
