Everyone has a right to health and safety at work. From salary workers to casual employees and volunteers, work health and safety laws are in place to ensure a safe working environment for all.
Sporting organisations and clubs have legal responsibilities and duties under the work health and safety laws that they must comply with.
What club committees should do
Check with your state or national body first to see what policies and procedures are in place and how WHS is managed in your sport
Learn about WHS. It’s a significant topic that all club members, from the board and committee down, should understand:
- Learn everything you need to know about NSW Work Health and Safety Law at SafeWork NSW, who manage work health and safety law in NSW. Book a free safety advisory visit and check out their online safety webinars and Small Business toolkit
- Read the Sporting Clubs Guide to a Safe Workplace
- Safe Work Australia can help with information and advice on WHS and volunteers, including their Volunteer resource kit
