Office of Sport

Events are an important part of community life and delivering a safe and successful event is a rewarding experience. Sports have been holding events of various sizes for decades; in fact, every weekend hundreds of community sporting groups deliver sporting events.

At nearly every sporting field and court across NSW, clubs manage the thousands of people participating in community sport. They decide:

  • where the activity will be held
  • who will turn up
  • what time they will turn up
  • what activity they will do when they get there
  • how long they will stay
  • whether there will be food available
  • who will officiate
  • what participants need to pay
  • what equipment is required and how it will be set up and packed down again at the end
  • how medical incidents and other risk issues will be managed
  • evaluate each event and make changes and improvements before the next one.

Sports Events Resource Library

The Office of Sport has developed the Sports Events Resource Library, a practical resource to help guide clubs, State Sporting Organisations and other sporting organisations in making their events the best they can be. From community events such as local sporting events, to mega events with an international audience, the Library can provide guidance on how to manage your events.

Your parent or affiliated sport body is often also a good place to seek advice from regarding event management, including activity/event checklists, insurance and risk management issues.

Your state or national body is a good first port of call for advice and assistance.
