Member for Monaro John Barilaro today joined Snowy Monaro Regional Council Mayor Peter Beer and local sporting groups to mark two significant milestones in the local region.

Mr Barilaro said the green light has officially been given for the new $15 million state-of-theart sports facility in Cooma, which was committed to during the 2019 State Election.

“The people of Monaro love their sport and this new sports hub will ensure that our sports stars of today and tomorrow have the best facilities available, so they can achieve their potential,” Mr Barilaro said.

“This new sports hub will be a game changer for a number of local sporting clubs in the region, with the complex set to cater for tennis, athletics, basketball, netball, cricket and more.

“This facility will provide a massive boost to grassroots sport in the Snowy Monaro and will hopefully encourage more people to get involved in local sport.”

The Cooma Sports Hub will feature a three-court indoor sport facility, synthetic athletics track and field at Snowy Oval and Monaro High School precinct.

Snowy Monaro Regional Council Mayor Peter Beer said it was fantastic to be able to launch such an exciting project for the Snowy Monaro.

“For a part of the year our climate lends itself to indoor sports. Once complete, this sports precinct will enable our local sporting organisations greater opportunities to host regional level carnivals and events. The hub will become one of the region’s leading sporting facilities,” Cr Beer said.

In another major milestone, Mr Barilaro and Mayor Beer also officially opened the new change rooms and amenities block at Snowy Oval.

“Snowy Oval is one of the most utilised sporting facilities in the Snowy Monaro, with the ground home to Cooma Athletics, the Southern Cats and local cricketers,” Mr Barilaro said.

“The new, modern and more accessible change rooms and amenities block ensure our local sporting clubs have the facilities they deserve.”

The new change rooms block at Snowy Oval was delivered thanks to the NSW Government’s Stronger Communities Fund.
