Suitable for children and adults of all ages, abilities and backgrounds, Yulunga can be used in schools around Australia as an educational resource and as a guide to inclusive, structured sport within communities.
Yulunga is a selection of games and activities passed down through generations, from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities throughout Australia. It provides an opportunity to learn about, appreciate and experience aspects of Indigenous culture.
Traditional Indigenous Games and activities are:
- played in their traditional forms with modern equipment
- modified for safety, ease of use or to cater for all ages and abilities
- reconstructed from incomplete accounts
*Yulunga means “playing” in the language of the Kamilaroi (Gamori) people of northern-western New South Wales.
Training Workshops
The Office of Sport delivers two TIG workshops:
- Presenter (Train the Trainer) – while the Office of Sport targets First Nations people to become trainers, participants of all backgrounds are welcome.
- Games Facilitator (teachers, community workers, etc) - this workshop provides the knowledge and skills to run the games at NAIDOC events, schools and community events.
PLEASE NOTE: a games facilitator is not accredited to provide Train the Trainer workshops.
