Aboriginal artists from across NSW have been invited to submit artwork for the NSW Office of Sport’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

Aboriginal artists from across NSW have been invited to submit artwork for the NSW Office of Sport’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

The RAP recognises the agency’s formal commitment to reconciliation between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Australians and will assist in furthering reconciliation through policies, procedures and culture.

NSW Office of Sport Chief Executive Karen Jones said artworks must represent the importance of sport and active recreation to NSW Aboriginal people and their communities.

“Sport contributes to community identity and cohesion, and is a focal point for engagement, pride and achievement,” Ms Jones said.

“It is also a place where Aboriginal people are admired and celebrated.

“But most importantly, it has the power to heal, support and empower.

“Through the RAP we are seeking an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander artist with a connection to a NSW Aboriginal community to produce an artwork which reflects the positive impact sport or active recreation has on Aboriginal communities across NSW.”

Applicants can submit up to three artwork design concepts for consideration by the Office of Sport.

The artwork will be used in the Office of Sport RAP and future Office of Sport publications.

Submissions must include an explanation of how the design represents the importance of sport and active recreation to NSW Aboriginal people and their communities.

The maximum budget for the artwork is $5,000 including GST.

Submissions must be received by 22 June 2020. For further information visit https://sport.nsw.gov.au/our-reconciliation-action-plan or contact tenders@sport.nsw.gov.au(link sends e-mail)
