The facilities at Jerilderie Gym, Jindera Recreation Reserve, Walbundie Recreation Ground and Tumbarumba Showground are part of a $2 million commitment from the Member for Albury Justin Clancy to improve local sporting facilities for women and girls.
Mr Clancy visited Jerilderie Gym to officially open the facilities and said the NSW Government is delivering on its promise to provide upgraded sporting infrastructure for residents.
“These upgrades, which are among nine projects across the Albury electorate, will support and encourage people to be healthy and active.”
Murrumbidgee Council Mayor Ruth McRae said the official opening ceremony for major upgrades to three key community facilities marks a very exciting phase of development for the Jerilderie community and the whole Murrumbidgee Council area.
“The projects at Jerilderie's Swimming Pool, Sports Stadium and Showground are part of nearly $21 million that has been injected into our Council area by the NSW Government since 2016 when Murrumbidgee Council came into being.
Cr McRae thanked the NSW Government for their support, which has allowed these major capital upgrades to become a reality.
"Thank you also to the many community groups who have driven these projects and others across our Council footprint, all of which play a key part in making our area such a wonderful place to live, work and visit,” she said.
Minister for Sport Geoff Lee said improving the quality and quantity of sport infrastructure across regional NSW is a NSW Government priority.
“Sport and active recreation offer many benefits, including teaching teamwork, leadership, encouraging friendship and building self-confidence,” Mr Lee said.
“That’s why it’s vital people, in particular females, have safe and accessible sport infrastructure in their local communities.
“Projects like these boost sport in the Border region, and also stimulate the local economy through jobs and investment,” Mr Lee added.
Other local sporting facilities in the Albury electorate which will receive new female friendly change rooms include, Melrose Park, Sarvaas Park, Urana Sports Ground, Holbrook Sporting Complex and Brocklesby Recreation Reserve.
The projects are part of the NSW Government’s four-year women in sport strategy, Her Sport Her Way, which seeks to increase women's and girl's participation as players, leaders and coaches and improve facilities for women's sport.
