Program Function: The NSW Government has committed up to $25 million to the Female Friendly Community Sport Facilities and Lighting Upgrades Grant Program (the Program). The Program investment will revive sport facilities by providing new and redeveloping existing sport facility bathrooms and change rooms. Funding will also support the provision of new and upgraded lighting that will enable more women and girls to train and compete in sport in a safe and inclusive environment. The Program will support quality projects that meet community need demonstrated by consultation with women and girls to deliver a quality facility that makes women and girls feel safe, welcome and included. Quality infrastructure is not only reflected in the physical form, but how it is designed, integrated with its environment, maintained and through the ongoing sport activities it supports. The Program will support the delivery of sport facility projects that can directly support sport participation across all levels by providing programs for women and girls across New South Wales. The NSW Government is supporting local communities to provide sport infrastructure that is universally designed and moves beyond compliant and provides dignified inclusion and accessibility for all.
Program Term: Applications opened on 19 October 2022 and closed on 23 November 2022 and grants were announced in February 2023. Projects are expected to commence by 30 June 2023 and be completed by 30 June 2025.
Applicants: A total of 136 applications were submitted for consideration, 94 of which were successful. The total amount awarded through the Female Friendly Community Sport Facilities and Lighting Upgrades Grant Program 2022/23 is $24,969,580.53 with a total value including co-contributions of $41,996,900.00.
Probity: The Office of Sport engages an independent probity advisor to oversee its grant programs. The role of the probity advisor is to ensure program administration satisfies probity principles of impartiality, fairness, accountability, confidentiality and achieves policy objectives. In doing this the probity advisor:
- Reviews and provides feedback on key program documents
- Provides clarifications to queries when required
- Recommends management action for conflicts of interest and any other probity issues that arise
- Attends assessment meetings to ensure, amongst other things, that assessment criteria are applied diligently, and the assessment is based on information provided by applicants.
With respect to this particular grant program, the probity advisor confirms the process was open and fair and there are no outstanding probity issues.
