The grants were awarded to 17 sports for 24 projects to increase participation, promote leadership and encourage inclusivity.
Minister for Sport Natalie Ward said the NSW Government was levelling the playing field for women’s sport.
“Women’s sport has experienced enormous success in recent years, but there is still a mountain of work to be done to level the playing field to ensure women and girls are valued, recognised and have equal opportunities to participate,” Mrs Ward said.
“This funding will assist sports to break down barriers and encourage more women and girls to get involved, both on and off the field.”
The funding was awarded as part of the Her Sport Her Way Grants Program which provides grants to State Sporting Organisations and State Sporting Organisations for People with Disability.
The NSW Government’s women in sport strategy, Her Sport Her Way, is providing more than $2.5 million over four years to drive change in women’s sport.
Minister for Women Bronnie Taylor said the grants will deliver a welcome boost that will benefit the whole community.
“Women’s sport is going from strength to strength and these grants are a fantastic way of encouraging even more women and young girls to get involved and become role models for those around them,” Mrs Taylor said.
Highlights of the 2020/21 Her Sport Her Way Grants Program include:
- Snow Australia’s NSW Women of Winter (WOW) program which will provide development opportunities in coaching, administration and leadership for women involved in the sport.
- Northern NSW Football’s Female Football Week 2021, providing participation opportunities for women and girls on and off the field.
- Cricket NSW’s ‘She Can Play’ program which will provide free coaching for female players from local female coaches in 10 locations across the State.
