Central Coast and Lake Macquarie girls and their dads have completed a ground-breaking program at Point Wolstoncroft Sport and Recreation Centre that has given them the skills and confidence to play sport.

The Daughters and Dads Active and Empowered Program is an award-winning program delivered by the NSW Government in partnership with the University of Newcastle with Dads helping to improve girls’ sports skills and wellbeing.

Twenty-one daughters and their dads completed the program which was held throughout Term 1.

Minister for Sport Geoff Lee said the Program featured fun practical and educational activities for daughters and dads.

“The Daughters and Dads Active and Empowered Program is an outstanding initiative, designed to ensure sport is fun,” Mr Lee said.

“When dads participate with their daughters it helps improve sport skills, improve confidence and self-esteem plus strengthens that special dad-daughter bond.

“During the Program dads spent quality one-on-one time with their daughters and enjoyed fun rough and tumble play, fitness and sport skill activities.”

Office of Sport Chief Executive Karen Jones said the Program was being rolled out as part of the NSW Government’s women in sport strategy, Her Sport Her Way.

“Her Sport Her Way is the State’s vision for the future of women’s sport,” Ms Jones said.

“Through programs like Daughters and Dads Active and Empowered we are breaking down barriers in women’s sport.”
