Duke of Ed Award Leaders
For adults who are interested and passionate in supporting and enriching the lives of young people, The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award provides a unique opportunity to become a Duke of Ed Leader. Duke of Ed Leaders are actively involved in keeping young people motivated and ensuring they are supported throughout their Duke of Ed journey.
What is a Duke of Ed Leader?
Duke of Ed Leaders are appointed by Duke of Ed Centres to become the contact person and mentor for Duke of Ed Framework Users. They can be anyone from sporting coaches to teachers to organisation leaders.
Duke of Ed Leaders bring a positive attitude and show a clear understanding of the needs of young people to successfully guide and mentor Duke of Ed Users. As A Duke of Ed Leader, you will help young people navigate the Duke of Ed Framework in a way that makes it meaningful for them, guide them in choosing from a diverse range of activities, set achievable goals, and support them in completing their Duke of Ed Level.

- Provide a safe and inclusive environment for young people to complete their Duke of Ed Level
- Engage and enrich the lives of young people through an established Framework

- Take up the challenge of going on the Adventurous Journeys with Duke of Ed Users you are actively involved with (optional)
- Receive training and support from the Office of Sport’s Duke of Ed Leader onboarding program
How do I become a Duke of Ed Leader?
Duke of Ed Leaders are appointed by Duke of Ed Centres, they guide their young people on their Duke of Ed journey and roles can include being a sporting coach, teacher or an organisation leader. Duke of Ed Leaders are an integral part of delivering the Duke of Ed Framework.
Follow these steps to become a Duke of Ed Leader:
- Register as a Duke of Ed Leader through the Online Record Book (ORB)
- The NSW Division will then contact the Duke of Ed Centre’s Authorising Contact (e.g. Principal) to authorise your registration
- Once authorised, the NSW Division will email you details to register and complete mandatory Duke of Ed Leader Level 1 training modules through the Award Community Online Learning Hub
- Your ORB registration will be approved on completion of mandatory Duke of Ed Leader Level 1 training
- An email will be sent to you to register for Duke of Ed Leader Level 2 training modules through the Office of Sport Portal
- Participate in regular mentoring meetings through the designated 12month onboarding period
