Review of the Motor Sports Act
Sport and Recreation regulates the safety of motor sports and motor sports racing grounds in NSW under the Motor Vehicle Sports (Public Safety) Act 1985, the Mount Panorama Motor Racing Act 1989 and the Motor Vehicle Sports (Public Safety) Regulation 2015. We issue licenses and permits for motor racing events based on stringent safety conditions for spectators, competitors and officials, and prohibit unlicensed motor vehicle racing.
Motor Vehicle Sports (Public Safety) Act 1985
The Motor Vehicle Sports (Public Safety) Act 1985 issues licenses for all motor sport events conducted on private property or non-public roads or road-related areas. Under the Act, current public liability insurance must be in place prior to a licence being approved and issued. Applications and all required documentation must be made to Sport and Recreation at least 6 weeks prior to the event date.
Mount Panorama Motor Racing Act 1989
The Mount Panorama Motor Racing Act 1989 issues permits for motor sport events and associated activities that utilise the full road circuit at Mount Panorama, Bathurst. Permit holders are limited to five events per calendar year. Formal approval from the NSW Police Force and the controlling/sanctioning authority are required prior to a permit being issued.
