Sport and active recreation organisations have the same legal obligations as any employer to their workers - but that doesn't mean that employment law is easy to understand, especially during these challenging times due to COVID-19.

Under the Australian Government’s JobKeeper Payment, businesses and organisations significantly impacted by COVID-19 will be able to access a subsidy from the Australian Government to continue paying their employees. This assistance will help businesses to keep people in their jobs and re-start when the crisis is over.
Open for application in late April 2020, eligible businesses and organisations will be able to claim a fortnightly payment of $1,500 per eligible employee from 30 March 2020.

Financial and rental assistance
Both the NSW and Federal Governments have announced financial assistance measures for organisations and businesses impacted by COVID-19. Many of these measures are accessible to sport and active recreation organisations.

Safe Work NSW is the New South Wales’ workplace health and safety regulator. They provide:
- advice on improving work health and safety
- provide licences and registration for potentially dangerous work
- investigate workplace incidents and enforce work health and safety laws in NSW
