Life-saving defibrillators will be more readily available at sports grounds across the State, thanks to funding from the NSW Government.
Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres today announced that Round 3 of the NSW’s Government’s $4 million Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program was open for applications.
The program assists sports organisations to purchase Automated External Defibrillators to respond to cardiac emergencies.
Mr Ayres said these defibrillators could help save lives and encouraged sporting clubs across the State to apply.
“Early access to a defibrillator can significantly increase a person’s chances of survival in the event of a cardiac arrest,” Mr Ayres said.
“The Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program allows grass roots local sporting clubs across the State to receive funding towards the purchase of a defibrillator at their club.
“With more and more people of all ages participating in amateur sport, it’s vital that clubs are equipped to respond to life-threating emergencies, so I urge club administrators around the state to apply for funding in this current round.”
Eligible sports clubs and organisations can receive between $1250 and $1900 towards the cost of a defibrillator, from a pool of $500,000 available in Round 3.
Clubs can receive 50 per cent towards the funding and maintenance of a defibrillator, or 75 per cent in the State’s far west.
Since the program began in 2017, the NSW Government has committed $985,000 to sport and recreation facilities to assist with the purchase of 780 defibrillators.
