The NSW Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres has instructed the Combat Sports Authority of NSW to conduct an early review of the Combat Sports Act 2013.
Office of Sport Chief Executive, Matt Miller, says the Authority has brought forward the review by eight months to ensure it considers the recommendations of the Deputy State Coroner Teresa O’Sullivan into the death of professional boxer David Browne in September 2015.
Matt Miller said that safety in combat sports is taken seriously.
“This review will ensure each of the seven recommendations contained in the Coroner's Report are considered and where appropriate referred for advice to the recently established Medical Advisory Committee,” Mr Miller said.
“The consultation will involve the Medical Advisory Committee which consists of industry representatives and medical practitioners with extensive experience in the identification and management of concussion and other head injuries.”
