Historic Old Kings Oval at Parramatta is set to be lit up with a new digital scoreboard named the Benaud Score Board funded through a $20,000 NSW Government funded local sporting grant.
NSW Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres joined Member for Parramatta Geoff Lee and Club President Greg Monaghan to announce the grant which is part of a larger project which aims to bring Old Kings up to modern standards for first grade and higher grade cricket.
“Parramatta District Cricket Club is well known as one of the oldest clubs in Australia, first founded in 1843 and the home of Richie Benaud, John Benaud and Doug Walters - winner of three First Grade Premierships,” Mr Ayres said.
“The club has helped foster some of the finest talent in the history of cricket in Australia, and is now home to some of our finest up and coming players.
“We congratulate Parramatta District Cricket Club on their successful grant application, part of a total of $3.5 million in grants invested into 650 local sport projects across the state.”
Member for Parramatta Geoff Lee said this grant is going make a big difference for cricket enthusiast and spectators alike. “Parramatta District Cricket Club is an important part of our community and it’s great to support them through the installation of this new equipment,” Mr Lee said.
Club President Greg Monaghan said local players are thrilled by the announcement.
“The new Benaud Score Board will provide outstanding quality presentation of ball by ball match scores, player names and statistics, commensurate with modern Premier Cricket standards, and fitting for Parramatta DCC, NSW’s oldest Club since at least 1843.
The Benaud Score Board will stand proudly beside the Doug Walters Pavilion at historic Old Kings Oval, in the shadows of the new Western Sydney Stadium,” said Mr Monaghan.
Other local sporting grants awarded in the Parramatta electorate included subsidies for uniforms and registration fees at North Rocks Carlingford Little Athletics Centre, team shirts for players at Granville-Waratah Soccer Club and emergency response courses for volunteers at Winston Hills Junior AFL.
