Help make Pat’s day extra special
Last month, Pat Lewis, previous World Master competitor contacted the Office of Sport to share her personal and inspiring story.
Pat competed in athletic and swimming at the World Masters Games in Sydney in 2009. A few weeks later, Pat was involved in a serious incident and suffered multiple injuries, and as a result Pat gained a large amount of weight.
Although she was told she would never compete again, Pat worked hard to get back into shape. Sadly, disaster struck again when Pat was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer during a routine scan.
In her online response, Pat said: “It’s my will to stay alive and competing helps me do this and takes my thoughts away from having a terminal illness.”
Pat has worked hard to maintain her fitness and competed in the World Masters Games in Auckland, winning silver in the 2km steeplechase run this year.
The Office of Sport is proud to gift Pat a free ticket to this year’s race, and is encouraging participants to use the online code PATSRACEDAY when registering for the Western Sydney Marathon event.
For every entrant who uses the code, the Office of Sport will donate $5 to race day gifts for Pat to help make this an extra special day. The code is valid until 28 July 2017.
