On Friday 29 March, the Office of Sport shut down operation of the Myuna Bay Sport and Recreation Centre to mitigate the serious potential risk to clients and staff arising from potential failure of the Eraring power station’s ash dam wall in the event of major seismic activity.

The decision to cease operation of the Centre was a considered response taken after extensive due diligence by the Office of Sport and mindful of its legal obligations under work health and safety legislation.

The action to cease operations at the Centre provides time to undertake investigation of options and community consultation prior to consideration by the Government of the long-term future of the Centre.

Staff remain on full pay whilst details of Centre shutdown arrangements are clarified and further discussions are had with each individual staff member.
